People come to know Jesus from lots of different paths. Over the years we have heard many testimonies but we thought it would be encouraging to publish some of them on the website.
So as they say, in their own words...
It happened! It happened! Yes it actually happened to me.
All my life I haven’t been far away from church, mainly physically.
As a young child I went to church and Sunday School and eventually in my teenage years drifted away completely. After getting married, I was encouraged to attend church by my wife and this seemed the pattern of my spiritual life.
We then moved to Thorpe Bay and as our son Steven and his family attended Shoebury and Thorpe Bay Baptist Church, we came along occasionally.
After the first evening of the Alpha Course my wife mentioned that she thought I would find the course interesting, so, I came along and found a whole new outlook and understanding of the Bible and how to live by it.
By prayer I received God’s blessing in the Holy Spirit and what a fantastic feeling that is. My life has changed.
Being the wrong side of seventy, it proves it is never ever too late to make that decision.
John
As a child, I really struggled with a sense of worthlessness and value. I come from a loving family but for various reasons this still didn't provide the sense of love I craved.
When a friend invited me to church at the age of 14, I thought I knew what it meant to be a Christian, but what I discovered was a group of people who felt loved, valued and worth something.
Even more amazing was that this sense of worth gave them a peace to be themselves and to be courageous in the way they were living their lives day to day.
This was what helped me to see what Jesus actually wants for us - to be set free by the truth and love he offers us and to offer us a life of adventure with him - a life lived to the full. My life now is so different and I feel free to be myself, to embrace life, and to face both the good and bad in life, with the peace that knowing Jesus brings.
Standing up in front of the congregation and telling how you became a Christian or what amazing things have happened to you since, can be very daunting.
Yet there are many of our congregation who have wonderful stories of their conversion, yet to be told. The Leadership have decided to make this page available for your written testimonies.
Your testimony will be read by the Church Leadership and then if acceptable will appear here, for a limited time. Your first name and possibly a photograph will appear alongside your testimony, if you have no objection.
Please email your testimony
(400 words or less) to testimonies@
shoeburybaptistchurch.org.uk or if you would prefer to ‘put pen to paper’ then please place in an envelope marked Testimony and leave in the church pigeon holes (near Thorpedene Road entrance) under the letter T.
